Why is there an additional merchant fee from Stripe?

Plasso uses merchant gateways to process credit and debit cards. Currently we integrate with Stripe, a widely accepted gateway payment platform. Stripe handles all credit card processing and takes the place of a “credit card merchant.” All merchants charge a fee to process a credit card transaction, Stripe included. Stripe’s fees in the US are 2.9% + 30 cents per transaction. You can see their transaction fees for all other countries here.
